The Whirling
Woodpecker decoy is a culmination of years of calling
wildlife. A process of trial and error trying to find
the best way to bring predators in close and not be
seen. The advantage of this decoy is that it is up off
the ground so that it can be seen from a greater distance
than a decoy on the ground. It is also small, light
weight and easy to carry in the field.
Testing
has shown the combination of woodpecker in distress sounds and
the movement of the decoy are effective for all predators.
Hunters
can benefit greatly with this setup because it will bring their
quarry in close and draw attention away from the caller.
Hawks and
owls have attacked it, fox have leaped into the tree after it
and coyotes have tried to pull it out of the tree.
